Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES)
Landlords we can assist in getting your property portfolio not only compliant to new regulations but also more energy efficient… in most cases the grant will cover the full cost of the installation (heating measures may require contribution).
As of the 1st April 2018 a new requirement was introduced for any properties rented out in the private rented sector to normally have a minimum energy performance rating of E on an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). Rising to a D rating by 2025.
It will be unlawful to rent a property which breaches the requirement for a minimum E rating, unless there is an applicable exemption. A civil penalty of up to £4,000 will be imposed for breaches.
